There is always one thing that looks great on you at all times, and that is confidence, so wear it well. Here are some of the things written by Elli Thompson Purtell on building confidence at work.

  • Start slowly.

Set smaller goals and realistic expectations for example focusing on one thing you know you’re good at. Whether it’s working with people, multitasking, speaking or programming, whatever it is recognize it and own it. Admit to yourself that you do a pretty good job at that and eventually, you’ll be more comfortable with yourself.

  • Ask for what you want.

“Never be afraid to ask what you want”, keep that in mind everyday for the rest of your career. Know what you deserve and your worth to be confident enough to own up to yourself because the only thing that stands between you and success is yourself.

  • Accept failure and value criticism

Any time you fail in something you need to remember that it happens to EVERYONE. Even Colonel Sanders was fired from dozens of jobs before he built KFC. The difference is that confident people don’t have time to wallow in failure. The more you accept failure and the less you take it personally, the stronger you’ll be in the long-run.

  • Say yes.

A part of being confident is faking it until you make it. This doesn’t mean you’re lying about your skills and experience. It doesn’t make you look arrogant and boastful. This means having enough belief in your abilities that you’re able to execute a new task. The more you believe you can do it, the more others believe in you too.

  • Relax. No one else knows what they’re doing, either.

Anyone would be insecure when we see our co-workers are doing better than we can. They speak up in meetings. They say yes to every challenge. They exude confidence. Meanwhile, you’re still unsure about everything. Don’t fall for it. You deserve to be exactly where you are, and you will continue to achieve good things.
